Matt "Doc" Wanat Advisor
An Associate Professor of English, Matt Wanat teaches a range of classes, including dual-credit and on-campus composition, American literature, literary and cultural theory, English education methods, Shakespeare, and cinema. Dr. Wanat's research examines intersections of form and culture in the areas of American literature, cinema studies, and, occasionally, popular music. His musical interests are grounded in American roots music—early commercial country music, blues, jazz, rhythm and blues, and a variety of unsung genres—an eclectic range of interests that inevitably creeps into his shows. Therefore, "Flatbilly Blues" is both steeped in tradition and irreverently "inauthentic," whereas on "Fall of Troy" alternative rocker PJ Harvey might holler the blues with hillbilly singer Roscoe Holcomb leading into a Motown song.
